X Chromosome Test
Price: We do not currently offer this test
Testing: Two females
Timeframe: within 15 working days of receipt of DNA samples at our office.
International Biosciences offer X chromosome testing between females who need to establish whether they have the same biological father. An X test is an accurate type of relationship test and provides a conclusive result. International Biosciences offers X chromosome testing at the price of N/A. This cost is for the analysis of DNA samples from 2 females.
Once you have returned your samples, we send an email confirming that we have received them and confirming the results date. Results for X chromosome testing take longer that our other tests and will be ready in 15 working days. Please note that we do not offer an express testing option on this service.
When Can You Carry Out This Test?
Are you females with the same biological mother? If the answer is yes, then you can only carry out an X chromosome test if you provide International Biosciences with a DNA sample from your mother.
Are you female siblings with different biological mothers? If the answer is yes, you can carry out an X chromosome test without the need to include any samples from the mother.
The X chromosome test can be used between paternal grandmother and granddaughter as they must share one X chromosome. This shared X chromosome is the one that the grandmother passed to her son and he, in turn, passed to his daughter. We only need DNA samples of the paternal grandmother and granddaughter for this test. We require no other samples in this particular case.
Science Behind The X Chromosome Test
X chromosome testing is one of the relationship tests we offer. Our X chromosome test analyses a total of 10 different genetic regions. If all 10 regions match between the people tested, we can confirm that they share the same biological father. The X chromosome is found in females and in males but females have two X chromosomes in every pair whilst males only have one.
Sample Collection For X Chromosome Testing
X chromosome testing sample collection is by means of simple mouth swabs. Mouth swabs are very much like cotton buds in appearance. We provide a kit containing 4 mouth swabs for every person. The swabs need to be rubbed inside the mouth for ten seconds, left to dry and then sent for testing. You will have the instructions and precautions to follow inside your kit, but rest assured it is all very easy.
FAQs
Can a paternity test be carried out?
An X test provides accurate results and can tell whether or not two or more females have a common biological father. However, given that an X test seeks to establish a relationship with a third person (the alleged father in this case) who does not actually take part in the test, it can never be as conclusive or accurate as a DNA paternity test. If you have a sample from the alleged father, we strongly suggest choosing one of our DNA paternity testing options: click here for more information.
What do you suggest is testing involves males?
If testing involves males and females in the same test, with the aim of establishing whether they have a parent in common, we suggest a sibling DNA test. If test participants are solely males and wish to determine a shared paternal lineage, we suggest a Y chromosome test.
